Wilderness backpacking or trekking is a type of activity with hiking and camping together, with hiking into the wilderness (or back country), and spending one or nights there.

However, trips may go for weeks especially when going long distances. In this case it is considered to be a form of adventure travel, and is sometimes done when island hopping.

What is most exciting about it is the fact that you get to explore fascinating remote places which may only be accessible on foot. It also has advantages such as its flexibility, and it is cheap travel.

You must carry everything that you will need because you will not have access to stores on your trips. However, you must only carry the essentials because you might be carrying them for extended periods of time. A heavy and bulky one may restrict your movement and make you more tired.

Another great thing about it- you get to do some of your other hobbies which may include sightseeing, adventure music, and photography. You can also get items such as rocks, minerals, leaves and souvenirs for your collections. All the more reason you should pack light!
